Plant Portraits
Plants I use as a metaphor for growth. I use a combination of realistic plants, drawn for life or from photos, and what I consider shorthand versions of plants. I find the contrast between these two to be exciting. I’ve also started to incorporate native plants, and work with traditional plant symbolism. Most of the works across all galleries also contain layers of plants/vines in the background, which I refer to as “background noise”. This helps build the depth within the piece and adds visual texture to the piece. This is the reward for the viewer who gets up close and spends some time with a painting.
